As we take a deeper look at Consumerism in the Church, we have to understand what exactly is meant by consumerism in our ministries.
Lets start with the gospel. The gospel is clearly about a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus Christ. And also to share that relationship with others that do not know him.
So somewhere in time we became about extravagant buildings, only allowing a certain social group to participate, and many programs that entertain fellow believers.
Francis Chan in a recent magazine issue talked about what it would be like if we were stranded on a desert island and had nothing but the bible to start a church.
What would we do if we did not have the option to build million dollar buildings, start thousands of dollars of programs, etc?
Let the innovation begin
The last component that we feel is extremely important is having an understanding in Technology. This does not mean you have to be an expert in cool gadgets and devices, but at least understand what culture is using to communicate. We live in a world where conversations have been replaced by text messaging, emails, and other unique ways to communicate. Churches can now broadcast over the web, and by satellite to multiple campuses. Having a strong understanding of sound, lighting, and visual media, can enhance your ministry for delivering the gospel to people that don’t know Christ.
A lot of people are negative towards technology, but even the simplest things such as the bible are results of technological advancements. (printing press) Yes at times learning something new can be uncomfortable, but that is the price for reaching more people to Christ.

Innovative Ministry Leader strongly believes that their are 5 key components for ministries to effectively deliver the gospel to TODAY’S culture.
The first one is Leadership. Having viable and strong leadership is a must for any ministry, or organization. In today’s culture Leadership has to be adaptable to change, while making wise decisions for their organization. Centering around other mentors and leaders is a great way to grow and make a positive impact for your ministry. But most importantly, always seeking God’s will first.
