What Magazines are you reading?

We are compiling an Innovative Magazine list for our readers. We would be interested to know what magazines you might think would be a good fit for this list. If it is not a mainstream magazine, please provide some information for us to check out.

It would be great to see innovative ideas, innovative products, innovative resources, and creative content for the focus of magazines on this list.

Innovative Worship Leader: Phil Wickham

www.philwickham.com

Phil Wickham is one of our favorites on the Top Ten Innovative Worship Leader List. Lyrically and Musically Phil Wickham’s style sets a new bar in Christian Music. Recently he allowed a free download off of his blog for a 15 song live album. It has a vast collection of originals, plus some old school worship favorites.

We would like to highlight some of the songs from his recent release “Cannons” which came out late last year. This is an album that we strongly endorse at Innovative Ministry Leader. It starts out with “Must I Desire” which a powerful description of an authentic conversation with God. Everything about this song fits from the melody to the music. “Desire” is a great song about the passion for reaching out to others for Christ. It proclaims that Jesus is all and everything.

One of the most powerful songs on this album, and in Christian Music overall today, is “True Love.” There is not much to say but to post the lyrics and let you read for yourself. Along with the music the dynamics and feel of this song will stick with you.

“True Love”

Come close listen to the story

about a love more faithful than the morning

The Father gave his only Son just to save us

The earth was shaking in the dark

All creation felt the Fathers broken heart

tears were filling heavens eyes

The day that true love died, the day that true love died

When blood and water hit the ground

Walls we couldn’t move came crashing down

We were free and made alive

The day that true love died, The day that true love died

Search your hearts you know you can’t deny it

Lose your life just so you can find it

The Father gave his only son just to save us

Jesus is alive

He rose again

This is truly one of the first albums in a long time that you can listen to from start to finish. Every song from production, to lyrics, fits into a new level of creativity for Worship Music. We strongly recommend that you pick up the latest release “Cannon” and visit Phil Wickham’s blog to download the free live album.

3 Questions…..from Craig Groeschel’s “IT”

In Craig Groeschel’s latest book “IT” he asked three questions that encourages us to turn outwards.

1. When is the last time you’ve had a lost person in your home? (The plumber who repaired you sink does not count)

2. How many meaningful conversations did you have with non-Christians this week?

3. Who are the non-believers you prayed for today?

This is tough, but it seems we get so comfortable in our daily lives we forget about people that might feel the flames of hell, and continue to do nothing about it.

This woke us up…..please comment

Charlie Hall “The Bright Sadness”

Charlie Hall “The Bright Sadness

www.charliehall.com

We just had a chance to listen to the new Charlie Hall cd “The Bright Sadness.” The first thing we really admired, is music production and creativity of this cd. It has a fresh sound, and does not by any means copy the norm of what is being released in Worship Music today. It is a voice to God whether we are in the greatest of times or the worst.

The first song on the record is “Chainbreak,” which is an upbeat anthem about freedom in Christ. It is a great anthem to present those outside of the walls of the church stating the lines, “Come just as you are, Come just as we are.”

“Walk the World,” is another great track, with an extremely catchy chorus. This is a great congregational song if you can walk away with the obedience that it is expressing. It focuses on being more of an influence in this world for Christ vs just inside the walls of the Church. There is a great phrase of being more like a walking sign for Jesus, even though we are broken and imperfect, and to let our hearts shine for a world that needs light.

“Hookers and Robbers,” is a song that we really admired. It is calling anyone and everyone to come as they are and experience the Love of God. Charlie Hall states that he is not near perfect himself, that God has changed him. This is amazing that a song like this can be used anywhere in the world to reach out to people. We really appreciate the authentic nature of this song.

“You are God” and “Mystery” will fit really well into your Worship Set’s and will have many gathered and chanting for Jesus.

What we really admire about Charlie Hall, is his transparency. Charlie seems to write from a relevant and real stance of his role in this world. That even though we all fall short of the Glory of God, we continue to let our love shine for the love of Christ. His focus seems to be so much more than inside of the walls of the church for this project. The music, melodies and production are all outstanding for this album. “The Bright Sadness,” is a definite release to pick up to incorporate into your Worship Sets and ministries.

Visit www.charliehall.com and you can get copies of the chord charts for all of his albums.

IML Pick: Crazy Love by Francis Chan

www.crazylovebook.com

We at Innovative Ministry Leader love having the privilege to read books and recommend them. One thing we do not do on our site, is get paid to advertise, review, or anything of that nature. Reviews are our opinion of what we feel are great resources for Today’s Innovative Leaders. We make a point to read every word, and offer a strong recommendation. Feel free to comment and let us know of any great resources that we might be overlooking.

One book that we picked up and could not put down was Crazy Love by Francis Chan. This book is so deep that we strongly recommend that you pick a copy up. It is strongly endorsed by Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio and other influential leaders.

The book challenges the calling of Christians to experience and radically respond to the love of God. This book challenges us to experience God’s overwhelming love and make radical changes in our living. Francis Chan encourages us to take a deeper look at the Bible and how it calls us to live our lives.

Francis Chan challenges us to take our faith to a new level. As Christians it is not right to see what Jesus can do for us, rather what we can do to serve him. In Chapters 4 and 5, he talks about being Lukewarm, and what the bible says about the Lukewarm in Revelations 3: 15-18. It might make you a bit uncomfortable, but scripture will clarify the truth.

The book continues to get deeper and deeper with different concepts of God’s Love and how we as Christians are sometimes not getting the point. One thing, unlike most books, is the use of scriptures Francis Chan uses throughout the Chapters. It is great to see a book that is not all opinionated but driven by scripture. Chapter 9 gives some examples of actual individuals who live a life that is obsessed and crazy in love with God.

There are so many exciting points that this book makes, that you will have to pick up a copy and read for yourself. This book will help guide you from not just believing in God, but to truly fall in love with him in your daily life.

Francis Chan also has a website www.crazylovebook.com where you can stream videos and other resources that go with the book.
